Five Pillars Of Islam Make The Life Of A Muslim
The five pillars of Islam which are also called Arkan al-din, Arkan Al-Islam or pillars of the religion, these are compulsory for a Muslim and are the base of Islam, they make up whole life of a Muslim. These five pillars are as below;
The first pillar is Shahada or faith
It is the declaration of faith and trust on that there is only on God in this universe and Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) is the messenger of Allah. The declaration in Arabic is “la illaha illa Allah Muhammad rasoolu Allah” means “there is no god but Allah and Muhammad (PBUH) is the messenger of Allah.
The Second pillar is Salat or Prayer
Each Muslim perform five prayers in a day and each prayer does not take more than a few minutes to perform, it is the link between Allah and worshipper and there are no intermediaries between Allah and his worshipper. In every prayer a Muslim feel inner happiness, peace and comfort. These five prayers are; Far, Dhuhr, Asr, Maghreb and Isha and offered at the time of Dawn, noon, afternoon, sunset and night.
The third pillar is Zakat or Charity
Zakat is obligatory for all the persons who are able to do so; the word Zakat means purification and growth which means to give some portion or percentage of their accumulated wealth to certain needy people who deserve it more.
The Fourth pillar is Sawn or Fasting
Every year in the month of Ramadan every Muslim do fasting and they must obtains from food and drinks from dawn till sunset in this holy month, this is necessary for every Muslim that has reached to puberty and at the end of month a festive is marked called Eid-ul-Fitr.
The fifth pillar is Hajj or pilgrimage to Mecca
Muslims from all over the world performs hajj in the twelfth Islamic month, every Muslim whether a man or woman who are physically and financially able, should try to make pilgrimage to Mecca at least once in a year.
There are few verses from Holly Quran which shows the importance of these Arkan al-Islam;
“And establish regular prayer and give zakat and obey the messenger, that you may receive mercy”
“The mosques of Allah shall be visited and maintained by those who believe by Allah and the last day, and establish your prayer”.
