Sepp Blatter is Stepping Down as the President of FIFA : Sepp Blatter, FIFA president steps down as head of the governing body, but not before the organization arranges for a fresh vote regarding the election of his successor.
Blatter has not shared the election date but shared that it should be held before the next World congress on May 16. According to the FIFA rules, it cannot be held for at least 4 months, the FIFA’s audit and compliance committee chairman shared with the reporters.
Talking to the media in Zurich, Blatter further added that the reforms he was trying to implement over the years have proved to not be enough. According to him, FIFA faces severe challenges ahead of it, due to which it requires profound overhauling.
He also said that even though he has got a mandate from the membership of FIFA, he still doesn’t feel that he has got mandate from the entire football world – the players, fans, club live,love and breathe football as much as we all do at FIFA.
President of UEFA, European soccer’s governing body was the first to react to Blatter’s announcement, as he had criticized him a lot in the past. He was quoted as saying this decision of Blatter as a difficult, brave but the right one.
