Sharapova Ousted From Roland Garros : Despite overcoming illness to make it to the second week at the French Open, Maria Sharapova couldn’t make to the next week on Monday. Defending her title, she was beaten 7-6 (7-3) 6-4 by Lucie Safarova, 13th seed in the fourth round, making it her earliest exist at the Roland Garros since the 3rd round crash out in the year 2010.
The Czech made only 22 unforced errors during the match that was scheduled on Monday due to the rain.
Sharapova has not given post match interviews on the court for preserving her voice and her shrieks when hitting the ball last week. Sharapova agreed that she wasn’t at her best today, as her competitor was in a completely different gear due to which dominated the match before eventually winning it.
Safarova after beating Sharapova, now faces 21st seed Garbine Muguruza from Spain, who has defeated Italy’s Flavia Pennetta in another 4th round match (6-3 6-4) in Paris.
With Sharapova’s ouster, only top ten players now remain in the tournament.
