England Head Coach Chris Silverwood Tested Positive For COVID-19 Ahead Of Fourth Ashes Test

England head coach Chris Silverwood tested positive for Covid-19 while in Melbourne with his family. Silverwood was already expected to miss the fourth Ashes Test in Sydney after being quarantined when one of his family members became a patient of the initial coronavirus outbreak in the touring camp. The England team will now be led by Assistant Coach Graham Thorpe, who has taken over as coach. “England men’s head coach Chris Silverwood has tested positive for Covid-19,” the England and Wales Cricket Board said in a statement.

“Silverwood has been isolated in Melbourne since December 30 following a positive test from one of his family members. He will remain in isolation until January 8. Silverwood is asymptomatic and is fully vaccinated,” the statement read further.

It was also stated that Silverwood will resume the England team in Hobart ahead of the fifth Ashes Test.

Australia has already retained the Ashes, having taken an unassailable 3-0 lead in the five-match series. On January 5, the fourth Test will begin.
