India Successfully Test-Fires BrahMos Supersonic Cruise Missile

On Tuesday, India successfully tested a naval variant of the powerful supersonic BrahMos cruise missile from a stealth guided-missile destroyer of the Indian Navy.

According to the Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO), the missile hit the target “precisely.”

“Advanced sea to sea variant of BrahMos Supersonic Cruise missile was tested from INS Visakhapatnam today. The missile hit the designated target ship precisely,” the DRDO tweeted.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said the missile’s successful launch showed the Indian Navy’s “mission readiness.”

“The robustness of @indiannavy mission readiness is reconfirmed today after the successful launch of the advanced version of BrahMos Missile from INS Vishakhapatnam today. I congratulate the wonderful teamwork of @indiannavy @DRDO_India & @BrahMosMissile,” Singh tweeted.

BrahMos Aerospace, a joint venture between India and Russia, produces the supersonic cruise missile, which can be launched from submarines, ships, aircraft, or ground platforms.

The BrahMos missile travels at 2.8 Mach, or nearly three times the speed of sound.
