Industrial automation systems are the systems used to control and monitor a process, machine, or device in a computerized manner. it will automatically operate to reduce and improve work in the industry.

Industrial Automation is the replacement with the computers and machines by Human thinking. Actually, the word automation is derived from the Greek words Auto and Matos. Which means ‘self dictating’ or ‘a mechanism move by itself. In production technology, new production techniques are invented. This is called the industrial revolution. The new production technology will change the condition of working and also change the lifestyle of the people.

Now in the industrial automation industry, the 4.0 revolution is running. The fourth revolution is called industry 4.0. technology is impacting our daily work. The industrial revolutions are as follows.

First industrial revolution(industry 1.0 (1733-1840))

The 1st industrial revolution means the industrial revolution begins in the 18th century, Europe as industries are using coal and steam machine manufacturing to create more efficient production. In this revolution, steam power is used. For industrial purposes, it was good for increasing human productivity. Instead of muscle power, steam engines are used. The humans and goods could move great distances in fewer hours so, the development of further changes the second revolution started.

Second industrial revolution(industry 2.0(1870-1914))

It will begin in the 19th century. the industries automating their production lines and making use of new natural resources such as steel, gas, and oil. Here the electricity and assembly line production was discovered. Henry ford uses a moving assembly line to drastically decrease automobile production time from 12 hours to about 90 minutes. Henry carried the principles into automobile production. an entire automobile, before assembled the station, vehicles are produced in partial steps.

Third industrial revolution(industry 3.0(1950-2010))

This revolution begins in the ’70s in the 20th century through automation partially using the memory programmable controls and computers. We automate the production process for the introduction of the technologies. Here we aim to automate the production process without human assistance. A well-known example of this is robotics. Robots perform programmed sequences without human intervention. This begins with technological advances in electronics, specifically through computers and upgrading their capabilities.

Fourth industrial revolution(industry 4.0(2010-till)

The fourth industrial revolution focuses on digitization and building a virtual world through automation. Manufacturing and infrastructure industries will see increased automation and robotics innovation. Technological advances in computing continue to result in smaller and more powerful devices. Robotic vision, hearing, and decision-making will supersede human skills.

It builds the developments of the third industrial revolution. Here the production systems have computer technology extended by network connection with digital twin on the internet. This is the further step in production automation.

Industry 4.0 has the potential to deliver advances in factory environments. in this, we use the power to change people’s work. The manufacturing environment allows for more methods of getting the information to the person at right time. Inside the factories, the digital devices are increased. The professionals provided documentation and service history in a timelier manner. The professionals want to be solving problems, but not wasting the time trying to source the technical information that they need.

In industry 4.0 the digitalization of manufacturing will change the making of goods and distributed and how the products are serviced. It is the trend towards data exchange in technology.
